Project Summary
CONTINUUM is a meditative, generative animation and large-scale installation by international contemporary artist Krista Kim, founder of the Techism movement (established in 2014), which advances the convergence of art, technology, and digital humanism.
Created in collaboration with recording artist Jeff Schroeder of The Smashing Pumpkins, and supported by globally recognized cultural figures including Steve Aoki, the work bridges fine art, music, code, and immersive spatial experience.
In September 2021, CONTINUUM was sold through Sotheby’s, becoming the first public art installation NFT in history; a landmark moment in the evolution of digital art within the traditional art market. The sale marked a pivotal intersection between institutional art leadership and emerging blockchain-based cultural economies.
The installation was presented in Toronto for a limited two-week public engagement at Fort York National Historic Site, a location historically associated with colonial military defence.
In a powerful act of symbolic transformation, the luminous, contemplative work recontextualized the site, shifting it from a monument of conflict into a space of reflection, healing, and future-oriented possibility.
International artist, documentarian, and cultural historian Ajani Charles approached CONTINUUM not merely as a viewer, but as a practitioner deeply versed in contemplative states.

Known for his long-form documentary work preserving urban cultural histories and for his disciplined meditation practice, including extended sessions in sensory deprivation chambers, Ajani experienced the installation as a profound immersive environment comparable to high-level meditative states.
From Ajani’s global perspective, large-scale public installations such as CONTINUUM are not decorative luxuries but civic necessities.
As cities confront rising psychological stress, digital overstimulation, and social fragmentation, immersive public artworks grounded in mindfulness offer measurable psychological and physiological benefits.
Cultural infrastructure of this calibre positions cities not only as economic centers, but as spaces of collective consciousness, innovation, and healing.
